The selection process for the Engineering Services Examination consists of three distinct stages. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination, followed by the Main Examination, which is a written test assessing technical knowledge. Candidates who qualify in the written mains are then invited for the third stage, the Personality Test, also known as the interview. The final merit list is prepared based on the combined marks obtained in the written examination and the Personality Test. The commission ensures a rigorous evaluation process to select the most suitable candidates for various engineering services.

The Engineering Services Main Examination consists of conventional type papers focusing on specific engineering disciplines. The exam evaluates the technical proficiency and analytical skills of the candidates.
