Selection Process

The selection process for the IES and ISS services is rigorous and consists of three distinct stages. First, candidates must clear the Preliminary Examination, which serves as an objective-type screening test to shortlist eligible applicants. Second, those who qualify in the prelims proceed to the Mains Examination, which is a descriptive and written test assessing deep subject knowledge. Finally, the successful candidates are invited for an Interview or Personality Test conducted by the UPSC board to evaluate their overall suitability for the service.

Exam Pattern

The examination is conducted in an offline, pen-and-paper mode. It includes objective-type questions in the preliminary stage and descriptive questions in the mains stage, followed by a personal interview.

General, OBC, and EWS candidates are required to pay ₹200/-. SC and ST candidates are also required to pay ₹200/-. SC, ST, Female, and PH candidates are exempted from the application fee. Payment can be made via Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, IMPS, or Mobile Wallet.
