The NDA exam is conducted in two stages:

  1. Written Examination: This stage consists of two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test.
  2. SSB Interview: Candidates who qualify in the written examination are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, which includes intelligence and personality tests.

Exam Pattern:

  • Paper-I: Mathematics
    • Duration: 2.5 hours
    • Maximum Marks: 300
    • Number of Questions: 120
  • Paper-II: General Ability Test
    • Duration: 2.5 hours
    • Maximum Marks: 600
    • Number of Questions: 150
    • This paper includes English, General Knowledge (Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography, Current Events).

There is a penalty for incorrect answers (negative marking).


  1. Visit the official UPSC website (upsc.gov.in) or the NDA online application portal.
  2. Click on the 'Apply Online' link for the NDA examination.
  3. Complete the two-part registration process: Part-I registration and Part-II registration.
  4. In Part-I, fill in your basic details, select the desired force, and verify your information.
  5. In Part-II, upload your scanned photograph and signature in the specified format and dimensions.
  6. Pay the application fee online using a credit card, debit card, or net banking.
  7. Agree to the declaration and submit the application form.
  8. Take a printout of the duly filled application form and the payment receipt for your records.
