The SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Examination consists of two stages:

  1. Computer Based Examination (CBE): This is the first stage of the selection process. It is an objective type paper comprising Multiple Choice Questions. The paper tests candidates' knowledge in General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension. The CBE is designed to assess the candidates' basic aptitude and knowledge across these domains.
  2. Skill Test: Candidates who qualify in the Computer Based Examination are eligible to appear for the Skill Test. This test is conducted to assess the stenographic skills of the candidates. For Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D', the skill test involves a dictation of 10 minutes at a speed of 100 words per minute (wpm) for Grade 'C' and 80 wpm for Grade 'D'. Candidates are then required to transcribe this dictation in 40 minutes (English) or 55 minutes (Hindi) for Grade 'C', and 50 minutes (English) or 70 minutes (Hindi) for Grade 'D'. The Skill Test is qualifying in nature, meaning candidates must achieve the minimum qualifying marks to be considered for the final selection.

The final merit list is prepared based on the performance of candidates in the Computer Based Examination, provided they qualify in the Skill Test.

  8. Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your recent photograph and signature in the prescribed format and dimensions as specified in the notification.
  9. Application Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online through the available payment gateways (Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, UPI). Fee exemption is applicable for certain categories as per government rules.
  10. Preview and Submit: Carefully review all the details filled in the application form before final submission. Once submitted, no changes can be made.
